The Legendary Carter Family began recording together back in the 1920's. The group consisted of Alvin Pleasant "A.P." Carter, (born 1891 died 1960), his wife Sara Dougherty Carter (born 1898 died 1979) and his sister-in-law Maybelle Addington Carter (born 1909 died 1978). They made many many recordings and were one of the most if not the most popular country singing group of all time.

In 1939 June Carter middle daughter of Ezra Carter and Maybelle Carter joined the group. In 1936 the group disbanded. Maybelle Carter continued to perform with her daughters, Anita, June, and Helen into the 1970's. as:

"Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters"


The song playing in background "Picture on the Wall" was recorded sometime between 1927 and 1936.

Janette Carter, The last surviving child of the Carter Family died January 22, 2006 at 82. She was the daughter of A.P. and Sara Carter.
