Ray Smith

Rockin Little Angel

Ray Smith's classic rockabilly tune "Rockin' Little Angel" hit the charts in the fall of 1959 and did quite well for him.

Ray was born in 1934 in Melber, KY.

His recording career included a stint with Sam Phillips and Sun Records, where his best chance for a hit was the Charlie Rich song "Right Behind You Baby". After leaving Sun, Smith signed with Judd Records, where Phillips' brother Judd released Smith's only Top 40 hit "Rockin' Little Angel", recorded in Nashville with the same musicians and backup vocalists who backed Elvis on his Nashville sessions.

The "Rockin' Little Angel" album is highly-prized, bringing

$650 in a recent sale. Smith was happiest on the road with his band, and was especially popular in Canada.

Sadly Ray Smith died in 1979.
