You Cheated

The Shields

The Shields were formed by Los Angeles Record Producer George Motola to record a cover version of the Slades song "You Cheated", and this cover version managed to outsell the original and reach number 11 on the R&B charts and number 12 on the pop charts in 1958. This was the group's only hit song. The group was formed using studio musicians who supposedly consisted of (though open to debate), Frankie Ervin, Jesse Belvin, Johnny "guitar" Watson, Mel Williams and Buster Williams.
