The Twin Tones
(Jim and John Cunningham)
In December of 1957 twins, Johnny and James Cunningham, recorded a song they had written called "Jo Ann". They released it on RCA records under the name "The Twin Tones". They had minor success with the song but it was soon covered by the popular group "The Playmates" and became a top 20 hit for them. The Playmates version echoed the fine Sax solo contained in the Twin Tones version. Both versions of this song are considered great pop rock tunes from the 1950's but this version by the Twin Tones is preferred by many early rock fans.
