The Jamies were from Dorchester Mass.
Their hit tune from the summer of 1958 has an interesting tale attached to it indeed. The Jamies consisted of Brother and Sister, Tom and Serena Jameson and Jeannie roy and Arthur Blair. They were discovered by Boston DJ Sherm Feller who later went on to become the legendary PA announcer at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox.
Sherm co-wrote the song Summertime Summertime with Tom Jameson of the Jamies and then scored the group a demo opportunity with Archie Bleyer, owner of Cadence Records. Archie decided he did not want to release the record and gave it to Sherm assuming it would never sell. Sherm took it to Epic records and started the group out on a tour to promote the record. Between July 18th of 1958 and Labor Day it sold a quarter of a million copies. The song managed to reach number 32 on the charts . It was released 4 years later in 1962 and climbed to number 38 on the charts. Guess you could call this a "one hit wonder times two" as this would be their only hit record but they managed to score twice with the same record.
Though it was not a two-sided hit it probably should have been since the flip side "Searching For You" was also a great song.
Tom Jameson died from cancer on July 19 2009, he was 72 years old.
